"For where two or three are gathered in my name I am there among them." Matt 18:20. Clearly meeting virtually wasn't an option in First Century Palestine, but fortunately for us today it is. On 7th July 2020, the MCW held its first virtual seminar. Below are some of the highlights.
The focus of the seminar was initiated by the World Movement of Christian Workers’ (WMCW) ‘Global Survey’ asking about our reality of the pandemic. It was posted onto the MCW website. Global Survey
So that anyone viewing the website could respond.
At the Seminar presentations were given by Jo Dearlove and David McLoughlin.
Jo gave a flavour of our reality as we are such a diverse population in our various aspects of life and because of the rapidity of change in advice, policy and by implication, circumstances: A simple reply to the WMCW could have been “Well it just depends!” She emphasised that each death during the pandemic is and has been an individual tragedy. Yet it was crucial to remember that it was also a societal and shared tragedy for us all.
David’s contribution to the seminar was entitled ‘Together facing the Challenges of a Post-Pandemic World – an initial response’. The last three words of the title were significant as David said ‘it is never easy to get perspective in the middle of things’. This meant that ‘reaction’ far outweighed proactive responses.
